Tim Ingersoll
Timothy J Ingersoll started his journey into animation at Cal Arts in Valencia California.
It wasn’t long before he was hired at a television and feature animation company filmation studios. Working on different TV shows such as He-Man and bravestar. And then moving on their feature department.
Where they created a remake of Pinocchio and Snow White.
From there he went to Don Bluth studios. He worked on All dogs go to heaven, Rock-a-Doodle. Before landing at Disney. At Disney he worked on such films as Roger rabbit tummy trouble, miscellaneous Mickey mouse shorts prince in the pauper, and Little mermaid. He met one of his idols, Dale Baer. Who just happened to start his own studio. He asked him to join him and he stayed there for the next 4 years.
From there he went to Ted Turner animation studio. Working on Pagemaster, and Cats Don’t Dance.
A few years later a small studio, DreamWorks was just starting to gather steam. He was approached to work on the very first feature film Prince of Egypt. Where he worked on many films since. El Dorado, Spirit , Sinbad and others.. at that time the animation industry was having a revolution of sorts. 3D animation became the norm. He was forced to sink or swim. Luckily he was hired on to work on Shark Tale, Over the Hedge, and a few others before going back to Disney and working on a 2d feature film. Hybrid, live action. The Enchanted.
After the movie ended he went back to DreamWorks. And spent another 10 years. Working on films How to train Your dragon, How to train Your dragon 2. Kung Fu Panda special. Not to mention that he began to Branch out into teaching incoming animators. The animation software . He split his time doing both animation and training. At one point he approached his boss and said we need to make a film on how we make our films. From that was born his idea to show the pipeline system.
He spent the next year working on this pet project. At the end he had many animation friends fulfill this dream. It is now a YouTube sensation with over 2 million hits. definitely his proudest achievement.
His teaching career has also taken off. Working at such schools as, Woodbury University in Burbank California. Gnomon art and design in Hollywood California. Cal State Northridge. Online schools such as ianimate. And Animation Mentor recently.
He was also sent to India to teach for DreamWorks. Also to China twice and Taiwan over eight times.
Recently he has started his own character design online workshop. Called www. out of shapes. A play on words. As all good designs start with shape.
Tim’s passion for animation and teaching has taken him around the world.
